Binding Rugs Together

By wrapping a strip of fabric around the edge of the carpet and stitching it with a machine it creates a finished look to any piece of carpet.
Binding rugs together. Binding the edges of rug is traditionally done with a large commercial sewing machine and heavy duty thread. Step 1 use a straight edge and a utility knife to cut the edges. Binding is the least expensive technique with the widest selection of colors and fabrics. If it s a simple woven rug without a backing it will quickly unravel once cut.
Decide which sides of the rugs you want to join together. Since most small area rugs have finished edges one edge on each rug will need to be removed to bring the piles of the rugs together. Remnants need not be the same different colors and sizes create a more eclectic final product. Start at the corner and use a seam ripper to remove the crossover edge stitching.
Normal binding is the typical way to turn those carpet remnants into a rug. This is very easy to do when using adhesive carpet tape. Since most people do not have this equipment at home it is necessary to give the rug to a professional carpet company to bind which can take several days or weeks. Rugs come in a variety of shapes and colors and they are made of a many different types of material.
You may not even have to cut the sides you want to join together if they already look seamless when side by side but if you do need to cut the rug make sure it s the kind where the fibers are individually attached to a backing rather than woven together.
